Vueling is licensed in Spain, so Regulation 261/2004 applies to all Vueling flights departing from the EU/EEA and to its flights into the EU/EEA. Most Vueling routes pay €250; routes over 1,500 km such as Barcelona–Tel Aviv, Barcelona–Canary Islands or Paris–Canary Islands pay €400. For flights departing Spain, AESA issues decisions that bind the airline.

Sí. Scope for Vueling flights
Vueling operates mainly from Barcelona, Paris-Orly, Rome-Fiumicino and the Spanish regions. All departures from EU airports are covered, as are inbound flights from non-EU countries (Morocco, Israel, Türkiye, the UK) because Vueling is an EU carrier. Flights from the UK to Spain on Vueling are covered by UK261 (£220/£350).
How to claim from Vueling
Vueling’s customer-services section has a claims form (“Reclamaciones / Claims”). Provide the booking code, flight and passengers. Vueling often replies within 4–6 weeks; when it accepts a claim it pays by bank transfer but may first propose a voucher.
What Vueling typically argues
- ATC restrictions — frequent on French overflights and at Barcelona; extraordinary where proven.
- Rotation delays — compensable unless the first delay in the chain was extraordinary.
- Technical — not extraordinary.
Escalation
- AESA (Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Aérea) — for flights departing Spain, AESA acts both as enforcement body and as an accredited ADR entity: since 2023 its decisions on claims under the Regulation are binding on the airline. This makes Spanish departures among the easiest to enforce in Europe. File after Vueling has refused or failed to answer within a month.
- Other EU departures: the enforcement body of the departure country (DGAC/MTV in France, ENAC in Italy).
- UK departures: the CAA’s PACT team, as Vueling is not known to be a member of a UK ADR scheme.
- Court: Spanish courts; the limitation period in Spain is 5 years.
Typical amounts
Barcelona–Paris, Barcelona–Rome, Madrid–London: €250 (£220 from London). Barcelona–Tel Aviv, Barcelona–Gran Canaria, Paris–Tenerife: €400.

Can I claim compensation from Vueling?
Yes, if your Vueling flight arrived three hours or more late, was cancelled with less than 14 days' notice, or you were denied boarding against your will — and the airline cannot prove an extraordinary circumstance. EU261 applies because of the airline's licence and where the flight departed.
- Conditions
- Arrival at the final destination three hours or more after the scheduled time (delay).
- Cancellation announced less than 14 days before departure, and no re-routing inside the legal time windows.
- Confirmed booking, on-time check-in and boarding refused against your will.
- The airline cannot prove an extraordinary circumstance it could not have avoided with all reasonable measures.

How much compensation does Vueling pay?
On the example routes for Vueling the fixed amount is 250 to 400 EUR per passenger, set by distance, regardless of the ticket price.
- Conditions
- Up to 1,500 km · 1,500–3,500 km · over 3,500 km; intra-EU flights over 3,500 km take the middle amount.
- Over 3,500 km the airline may halve the amount if the arrival delay was under four hours.
- Per passenger, for every passenger on the booking.

Which law applies to a Vueling flight?
Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 (EU261): Vueling is an EU/EEA-licensed carrier, so it applies to every flight departing the EU/EEA and to its flights into the EU/EEA from outside.
- Conditions
- Any flight departing the regime's territory is covered whichever airline operates it.
- A flight into the territory from outside is covered only when a licensed carrier of that regime (or the EU) operates it.

How long do I have to claim against Vueling?
For flights departing ES, a court claim is likely time-barred after 60 months (Artículo 1964 Código Civil (five years for personal actions)). Other departure countries have their own limits; the airline's own claim form has no deadline of its own.
- Conditions
- The country whose enforcement body is competent — normally the departure country — sets the limit.
- Limitation is national law (CJEU C-139/11); escalation steps do not stop the clock.

Where do I send a claim to Vueling?
Through the claim channel of Vueling: https://www.vueling.com/en/customer-services. Claim from the operating carrier, in writing, and keep proof of sending.
- Conditions
- Claim from the airline that operated the flight (on the boarding pass), not necessarily the one that sold the ticket.
- In writing, with the booking reference, flight number, date and the passengers' names; keep proof of sending.

What if Vueling refuses to pay?
Vueling is a member of AESA — resolución alternativa de litigios, whose decisions are binding on the airline. Refer the case there after a refusal or once the waiting period has passed; the enforcement body and the courts remain available.
- Conditions
- The body accepts the case 30 days after the claim was sent without a substantive answer, or after a final refusal.
- The national enforcement body of the departure country can examine the airline's compliance.
- A court claim remains available within the national time limit, as a last resort.

What if Vueling says the delay was due to weather?
Weather can be an extraordinary circumstance — but only on the facts. Vueling must prove the conditions were incompatible with operating this flight, that they affected this flight and not just the airport in general, and that no reasonable measure could have avoided the delay. A generic reference to weather does not discharge that burden.
- Conditions
- The burden of proof is on the airline (Art. 5(3)).
- The weather must have affected this flight, not just the airport in general; other flights that operated are evidence.
- The airline must also show what it did to avoid the disruption — spare aircraft, crew, re-routing.
- A technical fault, by contrast, is inherent in normal operations and not extraordinary.

€250 for flights up to 1,500 km and €400 beyond, per passenger, for delays of 3+ hours at arrival, cancellations announced less than 14 days ahead and denied boarding, unless Vueling proves extraordinary circumstances.
How do I claim compensation from Vueling?
Through Vueling's customer-services pages, one claim per booking with the booking code and the reason given. If Vueling refuses or is silent, file a complaint with AESA — its decision is binding on Vueling for flights departing Spain.
Is AESA's decision really binding on Vueling?
Yes for flights covered by Regulation 261/2004 departing Spain: since 2023 AESA acts as an accredited ADR body whose decisions bind the airline, not only as an enforcement authority.
What if my Vueling flight was cancelled because of an ATC strike?
Compensation is usually excluded when the strike actually restricted your flight, but the refund or re-routing and care rights still apply. Ask Vueling for the specific restriction; on strike days many flights operate normally.
