Delayed 5 h or more: you may give up the journey and take a full refund of the unused ticket, with a return flight to your departure point if the trip has lost its purpose.
Dublin has US preclearance, so passengers for the United States pass American immigration before boarding and a late arrival at the terminal can end the journey before the aircraft is even late. Ireland allows six years to sue, the longest period in the EU, so an old Dublin departure is often still claimable.

Dublin-specific issues
Dublin is home to Ryanair and Aer Lingus, both EU carriers, so their flights into Dublin from the UK and the US are covered as well as their departures. Aer Lingus’s transatlantic flights (Dublin–New York, Dublin–Boston, Dublin–Chicago) pay €600 in both directions; US-carrier flights into Dublin (Delta, United, American) are not covered.
Since Brexit, Dublin–UK flights are covered by EU261 on departure from Dublin and by UK261 on departure from the UK; Ryanair and Aer Lingus are EU carriers, so their UK–Dublin flights are covered under UK261’s inbound rule too.
